What Benefits Can I Expect From Student Support Services?

Academic Support and Services:

SSS academic advisers assess the information you provide when you apply and will recommend an academic plan to meet your needs after the first advising session and will help you reevaluate your plan as needed. Active SSS students have priority for special courses, scholarships, and other activities.

What Does Student Support Services Expect from Me?

To be an active SSS student, we request that you have two advising contacts each semester. Usually a 15 minute meeting with an adviser is sufficient to keep your records updated. Many students use our facilities and see SSS advisers more frequently during the semester.

You are eligible if you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and:

    (1) Your family's taxable income OR your taxable income (if you are an independent financial aid student) meets U.S. Department of Education and income criteria. If you receive financial aid from UH-Manoa or from other need-based programs, you are probably eligible. Even if you do not receive financial aid, you may still be eligible.

~or~

    (2) You are a First Generation College Student. If neither of your parents completed a bachelor's degree, you meet this requirement.

~and~

    (3) You are an undergraduate student enrolled or accepted at UH-Manoa and can benefit from any of our services as indicated by you on the Academic Self-Assessment form.

If you are uncertain about whether you are eligible, or have other questions, we encourage you to apply and talk to an SSS academic adviser.
